Nana Nancy

Dad asked me to go visit you last week when i was locked out, I never did,
truthfully i was scared of you sometimes that doesn’t mean i didn’t love you I did.
You were always there for my Dad and he thought the world of you, it upsets me that you’ve gone and i will miss you especially Christmas day, but it upsets me more that my Dad has lost someone so close to him i know that might sound selfish but to see him so far down hurts.
I hope you meet my Nana Lila, you will get on with her, and if you see Granda Jack he likes a drink ;)

Love Limpets

Limpet.
I was so interested in the colours and texture from the limpets. The small detailed shells stuck to the side of rocks, boats and driftwood as almost surreal.
I have fallen in love with this drawing I created, the ink I mixed was a bit to watery and started to spread over the page in an attempt to stop it ive created this interesting image.

From this I have started to develop this collection of different hand and machine stitched limpet shapes.

Standing on the coast

Given the word ‘Coast’ in my new brief automatically brought images of the seaside flooding back to me. Warm sunny days laying on the beach towel listening to the sound of the waves washing up against the golden sand. Children laughing as they dig a hole ready to in case their fathers with the smell of the sun lotion drifting through the air. So many childhood memories, like the smell of the rock pools and the slippery moss feeling on the bottom of my feet. I miss those days.
I jumped at the chance to revisit these sites and ideas already started to run through my mind. I went to first place I could of think of a small secluded beach my dad used to taken me when i was little,
“easy to keep on eye on you” dad used to say.
I walked the old path past the tied up boats at the local Marnia to find a metal fence blocking the old wall leading to the beach, walking around the fence and climbing down the wall i found the beach in neglect.

What was once one of my fondest memories now was blackend with seaweed and rubbish the sand had even turned colour. Two or three year ago i would of been distraught with this sight, but Art college as taught me to see the beauty in everything.

The knotted fishing rope wrapped around a pole caught my attention the detail and colours were amazing, a old piece of drift wood standing up straight was covered in the limpets which were the brightest green limpets i had ever seen, washed up lobster cages symbolised what Hartlepool grew from. I had found so many interesting textures and colour.

Who's a pretty bird ?... you are yes you are

My live brief "Home Sweet Home" has lead me into the world of bird habitation. I have always had fascination with birds especially house sparrows, my fondest memories include sitting in the garden with a glass of iced lemonade watching them weave in and out of the branches of the tree. Their rounded little bodies and fluffy plumage made them irresistible to me and despite begging my parents i was never allowed one, which i think in turn made my fondness of them grow. I hoping to make a selection of products including all three textiles, ceramic and jewellery that will be at a high standard that they will sell.
